Re: Disease Detectives B/C

I did WTC. I felt pretty confident in my answers, though it did take a lot longer than I would have liked so we didn't get the chance to review each other's sections.

Re: Disease Detectives B/C

I have a question, did anyone else at nationals think that the numbers to calculate the odds ratio/ relative risk were really difficult to find on the disease detectives test? My partner and I could find almost no data for the 2x2 tables. I can only speak for the half of the div C test that ...

Re: Sounds of Music B

I meant before the final sanding. You should have it about that far off when you drill the holes at the nodes, and then do final sanding to bring it within 2-3 cents of the correct pitch. Sorry about being unclear. Gotcha, and that sounds about right to me. Though I personally did mine at 25 cents ...

Re: Sounds of Music B

Actually, it's much easier to make a note flatter than sharper for a marimba. 50 cents isn't that bad. Some of mine started at 300 cents sharp. Sorry, you're right, I was confusing myself for some reason. But I still don't know why you'd leave it that off. You really should be aiming for <2 cents o...

Re: Sounds of Music B

Keep in mind, the pitch of the marimba will depend on the environment. So you can cut the keys now if you want, but sand them down to at least 50 cents sharp at room temp. That way, you can make it perfect next year. Same with the resonators. 50 cents??? That seems quite a bit extreme. Yeah, that r...

Re: Iolani Invitational

Hey guys, if any of you took the Remote Sensing test, how was it? My friend and I actually wrote the test and any feedback would be nice! lulz. zero feedback. But seriously, we would like some feedback. Assuming anyone still cares about RS anymore. *goes to corner and cries* I'll ask my teammates a...

Re: Sounds of Music B

Uh, a PVC pipe thing is NOT a marimba and is not going to sound nearly as nice as a properly tuned wood marimba. For a marimba / xylophone, you don't need to splurge TOO much on the type of wood (maple should work fine), but you need to research and know what you're doing beforehand so you don't was...

Re: Chemistry Olympiad

For anyone not familiar with this, here's a description of the competition: 1. Local exam - Anyone can enter, 60 MC test, fairly simple. At my region, the top 10 in this level get to move on (though this might vary in other regions), and only a maximum of 2 people from one school can progress. 2. N...
