Re: Scrambler C

For the record, this year the track is not curved, and the mass limit is still the same (2.00 kg). Once again, no electronics are allowed.

However, there are a few surprises on the track ;)

Re: Team Captains

Our team doesn't have any official leadership positions (President, Team Captain, Treasurer, etc.) but the 7 seniors on the A team essentially function like team captains. Seniors' roles: Attend the annual car wash Write questions for the tryout test administered in the fall + manage other aspects o...

Re: BEST MOVIES!

I watched Boyhood a couple days ago; everything about that movie was astounding. Go watch it; it's one of the only movies which is worth the price of the ticket!

Re: Scrambler C

I like scrambler how it is :( Anyways, I for one was not fond of the dowel rule. None of the tournaments our team attended had anything close to a photogate, and I'm sure there were only a few photogates used around the country. As a result, many (as in, all but 1 team at a certain VA regional) team...

Re: Scrambler C

So if something falls off the egg transport on the first run, it is technically a construction violation. Should said team be awarded a second run be awarded? Just as long as the egg doesn't break on the 1st run then yes. If they can't fix it on the 2nd run, however, they remain in a lower tier. (F...

Re: Scrambler C

I was just wondering how other E/C interpreted rule 2g, where it states teams have to use a pencil to "actuate a release mechanism". I saw a team build a hammer launcher and use the pencil itself as the release mechanism, in the sense that rather than lift the hammer into it's start position with t...

Re: Technical Problem Solving C

So this is only really tangentially related to TPS, but I thought it might have some impact on future years... We've started our electrochem unit in AP Chem, and it turns out that the Nernst equation, which I thought was pretty standard electrochem from doing TPS, is apparently "beyond the scope" o...

Re: Letter to the New York Director

Usually, I don't like stirring up controversy but, after reading this article, Mr. Miller's lackluster response to why he called the wrong coach really just doesn't pass. I don't want to flame the guy, but his response is simply unprofessional. Miller, in an email Tuesday night, said Ward Melville'...

Re: Yale University (YUSO) Invitational 2014

The range of scores on the Compound Machines exam that I wrote for YUSO was 1 to 44 out of 50, which I thought was pretty crazy. Can't tell whether that means it was too difficult, too easy, just right, or none of the above. The 1 and 44 weren't striking outliers either -- I had plenty of teams in ...

Re: Maryland 2014

There were 2 Walter Johnson teams at the Fairfax Invite yesterday (and a team from NC too)!
