Re: New York 2011

At the Division B competition at SUNY-Ulster, what were the weights of the projectile and counterweight used in Storm the Castle? Just curious and what distances did you guys get with your trebuchets given those numbers?

Re: Storm the Castle B

At NY States the counterweight was either 2.3kg or 2.5kg; I think it was the latter but I'm not so certain. 11-12 meters is quite good compared to what my partner's trebuchet can get. The arm we used was really heavy as it was just carved out of wood. Out of curiosity, how does your arm look like an...

Re: New York 2011

SUNY-Ulster was a decent place to hold the NY Division B competion. I liked the open spaces and I had never known how much open space there was in NY. I've heard that most of NY is rural but I've only seen the NYC area before the SO state competion. Rarely did I have a cell signal there though. If ...

Re: New York 2011

I've heard that most of NY is rural Technically yes, but if you mean where the majority of the population is. Then no, the majority of the population in upstate new york is still in cities and suburbs. Don't listen to stereotypes about us. He was talking geographically, notice how he also talks abo...

Re: Bottle Rocket B

Like, it won't get affected negatively by wind or rain. Or at least not much. You can't expect a good score if you launch any rocket into a tornado. And I can't explain because I know to do this because we built a rocket incompatible with wind that failed due to wind. Actually, the bottle rocket wi...

Re: Storm the Castle B

Nice. I didn't get to build the trebuchet and my partner who built it with the help of his dad built some lazy traditional (c-word). Shot tennis balls, hand balls, and a golf ball about 4.5m, 6m and 7m with a 2.5kg counterweight. We shot the projectile at States 5m while other teams were getting aro...

Re: New York 2011

I'd like to try a few of these once SO starts up again. It'd be awesome to try these over the summer. Unfortunately, I don't think my school will ever be serious about SO. My school looks at SO at a club where students just meet together afterschool and learn stuff. I assume that most people think t...

Re: Meteorology B

OK, so I have placed 1st 2 x, in the great state of Ohio (NE Ohio) at Invitationals, plus a 3rd at another. I also have medaled 3 times in Optics including at regionals. Just found out, because I am a 9th grader, I am the odd man out in competing at our State meet. Did I mention I finished 4th last...

Re: Bottle Rocket B

I just made a rocket that weighs about 153 grams with everything on it. I know that lighter rockets are good, but how light is too light, meaning how light would it have to be to not go up enough to get a good time? Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea. However, if it's light it won't need a lot...
