Re: MagLev C

I in general like the changes they made, such as guards for propellers, and no need to go for the most power or mass. I do think that 5 to 15 seconds is a really slow target time range to move a max 2kg maglev just a meter though. A very easy way to do this: potentiometer. Done and done. I'm not su...

Re: Elastic Launched Glider C

I don't know if this has been covered before, but how does the effect of having dihedral only at the wing tips differ from a plane with dihedral at the center of the wings and the wing tips? Dihedrals for full wings help with stability. They prevent rolling and sliping. The larger the Dihedral the ...

Re: Elastic Launched Glider C

In addition to leaving the official flight count at two, I would suggest one new rule to require the launch device to be a hand-held piece of wood (or other non-metallic material) of 6” maximum length with a 7” maximum length rubber loop attached to one end. The purpose of this suggestion is not to...

Re: Question for the Storm the Castle buffs :)

The guide system I was referring to was for the ball bearing axle fulcrum system :P However, I agree with you 100%. The more consistent and replicable your runs, the more successful you will be in this event. Ok, I thought you were talking about the things people use for the sling, they are not nee...

Re: Question for the Storm the Castle buffs :)

Hi, congratulations on the improvement! :D To prevent misalignment problems, I suggest using a sort of convex on concave (or vice versa) guide system to keep things aligned. The ball bearings on aluminum rod attached the the arm fulcrum is an idea I used as well. Also, to improve your distance, the...

Re: Robot Arm C

. In case folks don't have pictures, I have pictures of all the devices taken during check in, but won't post unless requested by the team. Jeff Anderson Livonia, MI Without thinking about it, the robot arm was inventoried and packed up, without pictures. If you could, please post the pictures that...

Re: Elastic Launched Glider C

Whatever the rules end up being, I think that they should be simple enough to be run at regional and state events without being a source of challenges. The Florida state contest has had at least one event thrown out due to challenges for the last 3 years. If math is to be involved, then all of the ...

Re: Invasive Species

At nationals every test is available after the event.

Everyone starts out on the same foot come next sept/oct (when the rules come out). All the national tests are out there to study. There is no secret stash of national test knowledge.

Re: Invasive Species

All I'm saying is that it's unusual for such strong teams to do so poorly. I'm brand new to this Nationals thing (and hope it wasn't a one-time fluke that we got there) but to me it seems like the strong teams do very well on the events that repeat year after year (or cycle). They've got those down...
