Re: New York 2014

I think as of right now, there isn't really a debate as to which state is the most competitive at the national level: Ohio. The past 5 years in C division and the past 6 years in B division have gone to either Solon or Centreville. New York has more teams competing at States (40 vs 54), but just lo...

Re: New York 2014

But having more teams adds to the number of teams that do qualify from that state. Those teams (6th/7th/etc. place qualifying for states) will most likely bring the results of the region down. At least, that's what I'm thinking. That's correct, except LH has consistently sent only 4 teams to states...

Re: New York 2014

Couple of things I thought of while doing the analysis: 1. "Competitiveness" comes in two forms: within regions (i.e., how close the raw scores are amongst the schools, especially the advancing state teams), and across regions (i.e., which region sends the best-performing teams to states?). These ar...

Re: New York 2014

This is interesting, especially because I used to be a part of the Lower Hudson region and it was a lot more competitive than Southern Tier. That might only be Division B, though, where Scarsdale would consistently get top 10 at states. I don't know why they aren't as good in Division C. I also don...

Re: New York 2014

This question of competitiveness is a lot harder to solve than I thought…the statistics get hairy :x Anyway, I parsed up the 2013 State results by region. For AD and LH, since they don't post results, I used geography to assign regions to school; it was pretty obvious who was where. Then I ran a bun...

Re: New York 2014

Sounds like they're in dire need of human capital. None of these are problems that a small cohort of willing Binghamton students wouldn't be able to lend a hand to and fix immediately. Someone there/reading this and attends there should get started!

Re: Yale University (YUSO) Invitational 2014

Well that depends on the person...like AlphaTauri and some others on this forum apparently think my tests are impossible (I think so far my tests have only had about...two or three people pass for any event)? :D Syo_Astro did you write the astro test for the YUSO invite? Nah, all the exams were wri...

Re: Yale University (YUSO) Invitational 2014

I will be compiling all the scores and posting distributions sometime this weekend, so those who are interested can view it then. Also, exams and keys will be posted online as well soon so teams can use it to prepare for other competitions!

Re: Yale University (YUSO) Invitational 2014

Dang that invitational was pretty competitive. I got 3rd in TPS. I was pretty surprised, since my partner and I got that event the night before. For my notes sheet I just reused a lot of notes from my thermo binder I made the previous year. I was really surprised that Spackenkill got 6th, since we ...
