Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C

Hi C Division competitors (and B I suppose could also discuss this) what is the accuracy of your machine so far? Either in grams or percent error, whichever is more consistent- I was kind of envisioning a running discussion like past score threads of boomilevers and other build devices. I think a t...

Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C Question Marathon

My turn and this one is kinda different but there is 2 correct responses depending on the definition from the source you use. What type of simple machine is a flat head screw driver i want both answers.

Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C Question Marathon

It's been too long since we had a question for this event. Now it's located underneath all the other marathons. So... The question is...|Which scientist/engineer was the first to derive the mechanical advantage of an inclined plane and in what year did he do it? Is It|1586, Flemish engineer Simon S...

Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C

How would one find the ideal mechanical advantage of a wedge? The only reason I am asking this is because I used to believe it was the side length divided by thickness, according to http://iqa.evergreenps.org/science/phy_science/ma.html , but I recently saw another source that claimed it was the de...

Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C

A question for those who may know more about this topic than I do: if questions are limited to static equilibrium per 4.a.iii, how could they involve kinetic energy as suggested in 4.a.ii? I don't know exactly but maybe you have to do calculations for efficiency but you don't have to solve more com...

Re: Helicopters B

I generally prefer .020. Thicker wire is pretty hard to bend since it is so strong, resulting in imprecise shapes and potentially unbalanced shafts. Commonly available sizes at your local hobby shop. 0.015 inch diameter will bend with most helicopter motors. 0.020 inch diameter works, probably abou...

I guess you could but be careful because someone broke the helicopter by doing that. And from what i know it has no benefits.
