Re: MagLev C

If you're using a stiff wire mesh for the caging then you can loop it to form a duct-like shape and then attach shaped sheets of the mesh to the loop. Unless you are intending to direct the airflow with the duct, they really aren't all that necessary.

Re: MagLev C

Well, actually we did ace the test, it was 9 questions long, only included the most basic of magnetism concepts (earnshaw's theorem, history of maglev, and magnetic force on a wire with a current running through it basically) and the last two questions were: 8. Without lifting your pencil from the p...

Re: Indiana 2014

The Goshen regional went great, John Adams placed first, La Lumiere placed second, and after that i draw a blank actually... though Indiana Academy of Math Science and Humanities got the Wildcard slot, though they were in seventh (John Adam's B-Team placed 6th and La Lumiere's B-Team placed 5th).

Re: Materials Science C

I wouldn't say that is true, any basic physics course will inform you on the mechanics of stress and strain and Materials Science is essentially an extension of this in terms of different types of materials and also a description of it on the molecular scale. As such there are an enormous number of ...

Re: MagLev C

Regionals here set a time of 12 seconds, half the teams we saw there didn't even bring a vehicle and the other half had vehicles that either had a host of violations or didn't run, ours had a motor burn out in the middle of the event and we still got a score of 84 despite our time being only 7.3 sec...

Re: MagLev C

nah, i was not referring to you actually, was more of a general question, i have a surplus of over 200 1-7/8 inch by 7/8 inch by 1/2 inch ceramic magnets each with a 3 pound lift force and i thought i might be able to make a track for my schools other team and i am absolutely stumped as to how i do ...

Re: MagLev C

How exactly does one build a track out of ceramic magnets? The strip tracks are rather intuitive, but it seems to me that the only way to build a track out of individual ceramic magnets would be to anti-align every single magnet on each side to force a singular direction for the poles, if this is so...
