Re: Massachusetts 2018

Nope, we're slightly panicking about it. My guess is that it'll be Mission Possible, Disease Detectives, and two other hard to predict events (Wind Power and Mat Sci?). WSSL is known for bringing events out of retirement a lot though, so ton of things are up for grabs. Good luck at next meet! Well,...

Does anyone have any idea of what next month's WSSL events are going to be? Nope, we're slightly panicking about it. Re: Chemistry Lab C

I was trying to do slowpoke's SSS chem lab test, and I don't know how to do 2c of the thermodynamics open response. Can someone explain it for me? It says to calculate the standard enthalpy of formation for liquid benzene, given dH(f) for gaseous benzene is 82.9 kJ/mol. Other givens are: dS for vapo...

Re: Rocks & Minerals B/C

How should I get started on learning to ID? Like from google images it looks like each mineral has a lot of allotropes and different appearances and stuff. Should I learn them all or just the most common?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Massachusetts 2018

Yeah so it doesn't seem there was much excitement for this anyway, but we've decided to postpone this until at least 2019 due to several problems we've encountered. I believe there could be minor excitement for it (i.e. on the scale of 20 teams or so), there just aren't a lot of B divisioners from ...

Re: Microbe Mission B/C

especially considering the limiting size of the notesheet You need to work on your notesheet skills :P lol I made a note sheet that was point 4.5 font or something and managed to fit in info for all of the diseases except like 5, though obviously if anyone does that they should be careful if they c...

Re: Optics B/C

Hi guys, Can someone explain how to solve this problem? It was on the question marathon (page 3 or 4 I think, kenniky's problem on angle of deviation in prisms) Thanks! Question: In the prism below, α is 35° and θ is 19°. The prism has index of refraction 1.45 and is in a vacuum What is the deviatio...

Re: Chem Lab C

Have any of you taken the Captain's Tryouts Chem Lab test (from Syosset High)? A bunch of people who tried out flat out received zeros on it. I don't do Chem Lab myself, so is the test really that difficult? I'm trying to decide on a roster for our team but it's harder making a decision when everyon...

Re: Microbe Mission B/C

On the MIT test, for Chlamydia and Syphilis it asks for the relative growth rate. Their respective answers on the key are fast and slow, but what does that mean exactly, and where could I find that out if I were researching it on the internet? Additionally, is there a rule of thumb to tell if humora...
