Re: Season 2011 - Site suggestions

I think all posts to Posting Games should be required to be posted by text message from cell phone subscribers without unlimited SMS plans. And on cell phones with only numeric keypads that don't do that T9 stuff. Or you have to build your own cell phone and submit it to SciOly.Org headquarters (the...

Re: Season 2011 - Site suggestions

If your GIFs are the smallest, then you are not compressing your PNGs properly (e.g., with MS Paint). You can always play around with the DEFLATE params or use a palette. Also, JPEG allows you to exchange quality for file size, so there should never be a still image you can't compress further. With ...

Re: Season 2011 - Site suggestions

Your avatar wouldn't have clean antialiased edges anyways since GIF is at most 1-bit alpha but we have two different backgrounds on the forum. You can get better compression and more alpha depth if you use PNG, especially for images like that one where you'd want to preserve every pixel. JPEG works ...

Re: Season 2011 - Site suggestions

You only need to find your event once: with only 3 categories, you're going to remember which one it's in after the first time. It's educational.

Re: Nationals Prediction Contest

I checked over the list. Looks like Division B had team swaps for LA and ME. Otherwise, looks correct to me.

Re: Sumo Bots B/C [Trial]

Uh, what? Harpy is made from panels cut out of sheets of PETG (an impact resistant thermoplastic). There are tabs and slots and a few t-slots to connect the pieces together. The chassis was not made in one piece. Not everyone has access to CNC mills, and even those who do are often obstructed by oth...

Re: New York 2010

I guess my old Div B team (Ryan from NYC) didn't show up. A shame, since they've been getting so much better at building events, and have been regional champs a couple of times recently.

I was just kinda sick of people all saying they also had the problem, everyone did.
That's the whole point of the thread. People are supposed to post that they have a network problem if they had one. If lots of people post, then it's more apparent that more people had a problem.

Re: Sumo Bots B/C [Trial]

By NY rules, no. I'd doubt Nats would allow kits without modifications either.

Besides, their kits never seemed especially beefy or low to me, at least not at their prices.

No, it's just a dumb thread. Of course I want to lock it, but it hasn't justified that, at least not yet.

Wait, atmospheric pressure is about 15 psi.

Jazzy, could you edit the first post in this thread to have the list of teams particpating, and keep that updated?

Re: Sumo Bots B/C [NY Trial]

It's a tradeoff. More wheels mean that less weight rests on the scoop. The scoop does not contribute to pushing power, so weight resting on it is weight wasted. Having more wheels generally means that you will have wheel slip when turning. This happens when the wheel isn't pointing in the same direc...
