Re: Favorite Sport/Sports Team?

For me it's simple. If you're a team from Philadelphia, I root for you. Fin. EDIT: Soccer is the only weird one. My primary team is the Philadelphia Union (see above), and my second team is Universitario de Deportes (Peru) because of my mom's family. After that it's a little bit unclear; I definite...

Re: Pictures, Videos, and Scores

For some reason, when i test my towers i get scores of around 1,100 yet when i take my towers to competitions they get scores of about 400-500. Has this happened more than once? (i.e. are you sure you didn't just make a mistake on a competition tower?) If you are sure that there are no significant ...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

So far, I have been unable to create a device that hovers to my satisfaction after several attempts :? . How do you know when you've reached that point of zero friction? I've dedicated a significant amount of time to putting holes in the skirt, but it still seems like the static friction isn't negli...

Re: Hydrogeology C

Does anyone know how you are intended to solve the "Determine the distance Y" in the gradient step of the challenge? I see a series of calculations involving a system of equations and the law of cosines that will lead to the answer, but that seems really complicated compared to the simple calculatio...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

I just wanted to know if we can have holes of greater than a quarter of an inch in our skirt. We got tiered in our invite because the proctor could fit a dowel through a hole in the skirt I assume that if you do have holes > 1/4 in., then you'll need shielding for your fan opening... Also, at a rec...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

Successful hovercraft designers, out of curiosity, does your device use a full bag skirt, a wall/edge skirt, or something else? I've been trying to make a wall skirt work, but I can't seem to get an air cushion at high masses. I'm considering switching to a bag skirt, but maybe I just need to try d...

Re: Hovercraft B/C

Hi everyone, I'm going to be competing in this event at my upcoming invitational and state competitions... I've read through this thread multiple times and there is so much terminology that I have a hard time understanding what is going on and I am not sure where to start. Could someone break down ...

Re: Towers B/C

Also on a different note, do you guys think it would be ok to cut wood from broken towers? Any wood that still looks good can probably be used again right? I'm mostly thinking about bracing here. You should probably feel along the stick to make sure it's not damaged anywhere, but pulling bracing of...
