Re: Michigan 2018

Anybody know what went down with Troy? We heard they were DQ'd from Write it Do it, but they placed 36th in the results. A DQ should have been a 52 I think, why didn't they get 36? Then they only had like 5 kids at the awards and no roar from the crowd whenever they were announced, so I suspect mos...

Congrats on your placing at states! Are you willing to share your score at competition?

Re: The Event that "Got Away"

For me, it would have to be Circuit Lab. In middle school, I let other students compete it due to a conflict with one of my other events. Unfortunately, it rotates back into the cycle next year, which is too late for me to compete.

Re: Scores

We just placed first at MI states! I'm not sure about the exact score, but according to my timer, we had: 105 second run time, 90 second chemical timer, 67 second target time. We had all 14 tasks, the battery bonus, and a 31x31x31cm device. I believe this results in a score of ~1500. I'm still slig...

Re: Michigan 2018

I will admit that anything is possible, and it's certainly possible to underestimate teams. But it's a lot easier to jump into the upper tier than actually contend for nationals (see my personal experience). I wish you the best of luck, but not too much luck. ;)

Re: Scores

Does anyone know what competitive Mission scores at MI states will look like? After looking at the possible points, I'm worried about medaling... States differ greatly in mission scores but generally 1000+ does decently well in past tournaments (1200+ does good fairly consistently though) For top s...

Re: Scores

I'm confused on what the "Unique Actions" part in the scoring section of the rules means. Is it not the same as the 50 points for each scorable action? Basically it prevents someone, for example, from using a halogen bulb and photocell for both the light initiates the next action and the exothermic...

Re: Scores

Here's what I calculated for a maximum score at states: Start: 100 12 Tasks: 600 Final: 250 ASL: 100 30 s setup: 50 1 battery: 100 12x12x12 cm device: (180-12-12-12) = 144 179 s chemical timer: (179-30)*2 = 298 180 s time (90 target): 90*2-90 = 90 Total: 1732 I changed a couple assumptions to be a l...
