Re: Hovercraft B/C

Sorry, I thought that since I got it wrong, someone else could have a go at the right answer and put up the next question. You drop a ball from a 26 meter tall building on earth. Find the velocity when the ball hit the ground. Assume no air resistance and gravity as 9.81. Show all work. v^2=vi^2+2a...

Re: Wind Power B/C

Thanks for the help. Can anyone help me with this question? The power generated by a turbine is 18,000 Watts. If the wind speed, which is initially 30 m/s decreases by 25%, what must the lift force be in order to generate the same amount of power? My memory of AP Physics is failing me and I don't k...

Re: Wind Power B/C

That's what I thought, but on Saturday at a comp they used a minimum of 5cm rule and since that was the State ES I wanted to make sure. If I want an official answer should I submit this as a FAQ? I don't want to get to States and have the same problem. I don't think 1 cm vs 5 cm would decrease wind...

Re: Wind Power B/C

I know that what's said on here isn't official, but there is no minimum distance between the blade assembly and the fan during testing right? And since I do want to make the answer official, would it be better to submit a FAQ, or a Rules Clarification? Last year had a bit in the rules that stated m...

Re: Princeton Invitational [PUSO]

Yeah, if you see my edit I noticed that after I posted. That's actually pretty impressive then, getting 4th (and so close to 3rd) with three no-shows Haha yeah I posted that before your edit, sorry. And yeah, definitely quite impressive Considering they got 10th place or worse in 4 events they meda...

Re: MIT Invitational

Congratulations to all who competed at MIT! It was a ton of fun and there were lots of great tests.

Re: Pennsylvania 2017

I thought they do this at MIT now? Can confirm, we send underclassmen to Stoga, stacked team to MIT. Didn't know that. Was this different last year? Your MIT team seemed a lot weaker than your Nationals team, which is why I was wondering. It was this way last year as well; Possibly, but we came in ...

But doesn't Harriton field their underclassmen team at Stoga?

Re: Wind Power B/C

I'm not quite sure I understand why faster blades don't generate more power. The faster the blade, the more revolutions there are that dictate the amount of output voltage; the higher the voltage, the more power generated (v^2/r). Am I missing something here? Or is there another variable attached w...

Re: Wind Power B/C

They added a resistor to the setup this year. How does this affect blade design? As far as I remembered, we also had a resistor last year as well. It's just that this year, the range of what the resistance can be is larger. Adding resistance means that the blade needs to be able to generate power a...
