Re: Fermi Questions C

Do you guys have any advice on getting +5 on an answer instead of +3? Somehow, I get a lot of +3. The answers are either 1 less or 1 more than the actual fermi answer.
Also, how do you try to improve? My scores seem to remain the same as they are around 50%.

Re: Protein Modeling C

For those that participated in the past, how much time are we given on the written test and how much time are we given on the building?
Or do you get to distribute the time yourself?

Re: Sounds of Music C

I took the University of Florida test. It can be found on scioly.org/tests. I wouldn't say it is very hard. I thought it was hard because I didn't even study parts of the scales/intervals. I took it as a practice (a month away, so binder isn't 100% finished). Well, I live in the Bay Area and there a...

Re: Sounds of Music C

I haven't done Science Olympiad for a long time. Do any of you guys have any idea what the highest scores are on the tests (percentage wise)? I am not asking for any specific event. I am asking this question because I took a Sounds of Music test and got 53% :(. cThankfully, my competition day is on ...

Re: Sounds of Music C

Sorry if this post isn't really related to the building aspect, but I took the Ohio test (http://homepages.bw.edu/~phoekje/olympiad/SoundsOfMusicT2.pdf and for #12, I am very confused. If you want to play a higher frequency, wouldn't that mean shortening the string, tube, etc.? The answer key instea...

Re: Sounds of Music C

Do any of you have suggestions about the binder? This is my first year doing a binder event, so how do I make sure my binder has everything I need without printing every single thing?
The UNSW website is pretty long.

Re: Protein Modeling C

For those that did this event in the past, do you have any idea of how many nucleotides long is the on build model? I am researching the 5f9r protein that is going to be the on build protein and on ebi.ac.uk I found some side chain to be around 30 nucleotides long. https://www.ebi.ac.uk/pdbe/entry/p...

Re: Protein Modeling C

When I read the 2 research papers, it mentions quite a few side chains. Does that mean I have to put every single one or some that are the most important ones? Also, are any of you going to make a protein attached to ACRIIA4 which includes the RuvC, CTD, and TOPO domain? For me, I was considering do...

Re: Protein Modeling C

For those that had past experience, do any of you have suggestions on how to fold it? I watched the videos but I struggle with the 3D structure folding. It is so hard! :(

Re: Protein Modeling C

Did any of you receive an orange strand for the protein modeling prebuild kit? The orange strand is longer than the blue strand. They said that it was because the blue strand wasn't the correct length. Did any of you get this?
