Re: Where are you going for colleges?

Of note: many of you posting here are in middle school/early high school. There is still far too much time left for you to really claim where you'll go or what you're interested in. Even a focus in engineering can be greatly altered by a high school physics class and a look at calculus. It seems mil...

Re: Baseball

As a Mets fan, I must applaud the Phillies for what is seemingly a steal of Cliff Lee. He's a great starter (not quite "brilliant" like last year, but so be it) who didn't get run support in Cleveland. It would appear that the offense-heavy Phils should now give him the wins he's been sorely deprive...

Re: New York 2009

I am admittedly amused to see FM continue to dominate the state. Unless I see real changes at the regional level, I will doubt the notion of FM fading into the background. I think that at some point you reach a plateau where you won't get a lower score (and that's a very impressive feat). Furthermor...

Re: New York 2009

My expectation? FM to win by more than 100 points again. JD may have seemingly closed in, but FM really can't get a much better score - at some point it becomes just one point per event. The level of difficulty when gaining such a low sum is insane. As for the other national team? Someone from the S...

Re: New York 2009

And so Division C teams... a week from now, some of you will already be in events, displaying your work and earning medals. Do you think you're ready? Spend this week refining your skills, checking your binders, looking over your building events. Perhaps the most important thing in preparation is to...

Re: Experimental Design

Do they always give you the rubric? And when they give you the problem, it usually specific or general? Like, "do an experiment about electricity," or "derive Ohm's Law? I would take a look at some of the examples posted in this thread and on the Wiki. The range of specificity is quite broad. I wou...

Re: New York 2009

To my knowledge, there is not a bonus team from the Adirondack Region this year. The three listed (Plattsburgh, Potsdam, and Watertown) are the only three that appear to be headed to West Point. For those interested, a brief article on the competition.

Re: Experimental Design

I think it sounds really cool! My couch's suggestion is that you memorize the rubric so you know not to leave out anything. It's pretty cool. We did a pratice design and it was pretty fun. It's my second favorite event this year! I would actually agree with your coach on this one. You may or may no...

Re: New York 2009

Good luck Mid State competitors! Of course I'm rooting for my old team, but I hope everyone has a good day at LeMoyne. A strong region is good for everyone involved, and even better for the teams that get to West Point.

Re: Pentathalon

@everybody If you are currently participating in Pentathlon in Division B: have you had a chance to look at the rules yet? General Tip: When you have an event, you should read the rules as if it is your job. Read them early, continue to read them. Don't over-analyze them. Most rules for events are f...
