Re: 2019 National Tournament: Cornell University

Agreed. Coming from IL B, one team that deserves to go (if they get a bit more consistency) is Woodland. They got a 204 at IL State compared to Marie Murphy's 111 and Daniel Wright's 84. They also bombed Roller Coaster (getting 44) and presumably bombed Battery Buggy (getting 30). Note: I am not fro...

Re: Toughest Regions

For IL B, the Harper College Regional was pretty insane in 2019. There were 4 bids, and they went to South (9th at state), Latin (10th at state), Twin Groves (6th at state), and Science and Arts Academy (4th at state). Because of the incredible competitiveness of this regional, many schools that nor...

Re: Very Early 2020 Hype

At least it won't interfere with my high school's finals! It did this past year.

I think that that is most likely.

Coaching Tips

Hello all,
I am a SciO alumnus who is going to become an assistant coach for a school and coach Density Lab and Water Quality. Do you have any tips for how to make practices a mix of fun and work and still have the team medal consistently?
Thank you so much in advance,

Re: chalker, can I...

I had never heard this, as I never go out of IL for SciOly, and all the invite, regional, and state tests that I have taken have practically all tested the same material.

Re: chalker, can I...

Thank you for that information. I had not yet known this. @syo_astro, I completely agree with you. However, I feel that the event is a bit too narrow in scope, especially when compared to other events.

Re: chalker, can I...

Would you be able to add basic thermodynamic knowledge (more in-depth temperature scales, laws, Carnot cycle, thermodynamic systems and processes, heat transfer, phases of matter, etc.), or would this be too specific?

Re: chalker, can I...

Dear Dr. Chalker, I would like to make suggestions for the Density Lab rules in the 2020 season. To give you some background on me, I received 2nd place at IL State (where the national event supervisor was supervising). Thus, I would say that I am moderately knowledgeable about the event and its top...
