Re: Wright Stuff in Division B!!!

I'm far from the best flier, so I expect nationals winning times will be well over three minutes (unless its held in a closet). Considering that at least years nationals there was only one team that was significantly over 3 minutes with rules that were much more conducive to longer flights I am not...

Re: Elevated Bridge 2009

Re: Elevated Bridge 2009

I'm having the same problem with cost. My partner is determined to use power tools and wood glue. We have gone through at least 30 sticks of balsa because of it. :( Sigh I'm having event issues... Unless you are using oak or really dense thick basswood there is no reason to be using power tools. It...

Re: Elevated Bridge 2009

Wood+$$$ problem= you should definitely look into any companies near you to try and get a sponsorship. Look specifically for companies that deal with engineering. They love to shell out money for science olympiad. I hate when I have to buy all the supplies for building events...it takes quite a tol...

Re: Wright Stuff in Division B!!!

Plane building and flying can be really fun. It can also be really frustrating after you have spent tons of time on something and can not figure out why it is going wrong or after things fall apart on you... This is one event where you can never have too much preparation.

Re: Robo-Cross (B)

To pick up things like coins something thin and flat that can slide under the item combined with a sweeper or brush of some sorts usuall...

Re: Wright Stuff in Division B!!!

I was wondering about the different ways to make a plane turn, and which might be best for Wright Stuff. The wiki talks about two methods. 1. setting the wing and stab at different angles. 2. turning the rudder/vertical stabilizer so the whole plane yaws I've also read about a third method: 3. sett...

Re: Robo-Cross (B)

Let's talk design, With this years rules and the 2 diffrent goals designs are going to change a lot. I am going to just take a dump truck and try and get everything for the large goal, then the small goal. But what do you think? That approach should work ok. You might face some significant challeng...

Re: Robo-Cross (B)

i already quit this event
I think robots have the toughest learning curve of any of the building events. Its one of the hardest but one of the most rewarding. Even if you fail you will learn something that you might actually be able to use latter, unlike Wright Stuff.
