Re: Towers B/C

Balsa Man... I hope people appreciate the work you do! Your research shows hours of testing, stuff I always wanted to do but never had time to. Sometimes hard to follow but I love the conclusion. Because of years of hands on building with different sets of students I can see your data follows our ex...

Re: Towers B/C

Bass Wood - a 3/32 x 3/32 x 24 inch (60.96cm) weighs in the 1.5 gram range. That's about 6 grams in leg weight. Bass wood is very good in compression and very consistent thru out the length. Haven't tried to plot the BS, but worth looking into...

Re: Towers B/C

Here is a Balsa Density Calculator. If you have a rough idea what density your looking for, put in the length, width, thickness and play with the mass to see your target weight of what a stick should be for your needs. Go shopping with a scale.

3. Can someone find me a link for 1/4 plexiglass I need to use for the base?
I bought 1/4 inch Lexon from Home Depot this past summer. Lowes also had it. Check any good home center, they should have it. I used a table saw to cut it to shape.

Do they get the 2 kg bonus as their score? For example an 2000 gm load (bonus) / 8 gram tower = 25 score Is...

Re: Towers B/C

When the rules say the tower must span a 20x20 cm hole, does it mean that the tower's base must have minimum dimensions of 20x20 cm, or that it simply needs to cross the 20x20 gap? You can rotate a 4 legged tower so you hit the center line (10 cm) of each 20 cm side. A tower base around 15 or 16 cm...

Re: Towers B/C

Just wanted to share a 'balsa stripper' I made several years ago.. Took a piece of 1/4 inch thick flat PVC, 6 inch wide and 20 inches long as a base plate. Then took another piece of 1/8 inch plastic 2 inches wide 20 in. long and screwed it to the right side of the base plate. Then mounted one of th...

Re: Towers B/C

If the score isn't deep enough, when you bend it, it's possible the plexi will crack to a different path and ruin the piece
