Re: Bridge Building 2016

I am not a mechanical engineer here but I believe you cannot avoid having horizontal component of the force due the angle of the two anchor points relative to the ground. Anyway, I will probably make mine out of wood, make it kind of slippery (prepared for worse case) and go from there. Thanks.

Re: Bridge Building 2016

Yes supervisors are great people and I thank them over and over again for taking the time to make this happens. So I am not at all suggesting that they are bad people here, I am merely suggesting that if they coach a team also, they have access to the actual apparatus and loading blocks while we do...

Re: Bridge Building 2016

Is the Test Support going to be secured to the table somehow? I'm imagining that if the tables shakes somehow or something it would wobble and fall over easily. No. Unless there's significant wobbling, the test support shouldn't fall over that easily. I just read the rule, so I just started to thin...

Re: Air Trajectory B/C

Hello! I'm currently using a stomp rocket as the base for my design. The tube connected to the stomp rocket is a fraction of an inch in diameter. I've tested the design with the actual rocket, and it can fire the correct distance. However, I have been unsuccessful in connecting the tube to the PVC ...

Re: Air Trajectory B/C

I'm trying to get a piston design to work, but I can't find the right materials for it. Like a rubber stopper, can someone suggest something that's more cylindrical, and where I can find it? The cylinder object that I will have to force down, therefore lead to air pressure. It could be soft in obje...

Re: Air Trajectory B/C

Again, my point is that what is the original intent of the rule clarification that added the stipulation that the word must be on the package? If the intent is to add scavenger hunt aspect into the event then I completely understand. But with all due respect, if the intent is not to allow foam balls...

Re: Air Trajectory B/C

That is not very clear to me. The same material if put in a package that has the word plastic in it is legal and not if it does not. It is border on relying on some marketing department or who design the package for the material to be legal and not at all scientific, seems to me. Wouldn't no foam b...
