Re: Helicopters B

Another way to think about it. Again, pick a single, arbitrary blade on a rotor. As it revolves around its axis it will sweep out a disk shaped volume with some, possibly non-uniform thickness depending on its shape. Every other blade on the rotor must sweep out the same volume. So if we have two d...

Re: Hollow Motor Sticks

I am assuming you are doing kevlar truss of the Freedom Flight kit? What actually failed when you do that? I did not even add the kevlar support because I found a very light balsa motor stick that can withstand the regular rubber full winding. The balsa piece I found for motor stick was 3/16 x 3/8 x...

Re: Helicopters B

Ahh yes. It is another indication along with the "feel" that the winder must sense before the break and reducing the length or the stretch until you run out of stretched rubber. Also probably a good way to get consistent maximum winding by giving feedback to confirm what you are sensing in the tensi...

Re: Helicopters B

What is the reason why one uses torque meter in this event? I'm not an expert but when I did wrightstuff, the main reason for torque meter was to be able to have better control of the height that the plane would reach with the torque reading. The torque reading gives you sort of the instantaneous po...

Re: Ongoing Contest(Scores)

I see. I guess if I get beaten by a copied design of mine, I would be a little protective of my design in the future too. I just find it hard to swallow that in a region with lots of competitive teams that each team's design would be that far off and have to resort to copying. How does one even know...

Re: Boomilever B/C

I drill with the smallest bit I have and use a small precision file and carefully widen the hole in a triangular matter as pictured in Aia instruction. Also glue the triangular pieces to the end of tension members and I believe the gorilla glue should be used for this connection. Gorilla glue expand...

Re: Rotor Egg Drop B

I agree, 70 cm tip to tip is alright, but a non-tilting device that spans 70x70 cm square is not ok. From my experience, you tend to want maximum wing surface, so I think most people build it close to the maximum 70 cm tip to tip anyway.

Re: Rotor Egg Drop B

What do you mean? How do you fit a 70x70 device flat into a 51x51 square? 70x70 device is illegal if it does not fly tilted, that is why Cade said it was against the rule. http://www.soinc.org/node/247 02/21/2013 - 22:19 Can the device be put in diagonal direction of the 51x51x51 cube? No, the devic...

Re: Rotor Egg Drop B

If it is true, then it is really good. But, I have Never seen a team that had a time of 6.1. It's sort of unreal. It's against the rules, because it has to fit in the cube in flight position. Mine was 70cm x 70cm, and it only fit in the box if I tilted it, while bending the wings. You did not know ...

Re: Ongoing Contest(Scores)

I don't mean to belittle a lot of people here with their ability and knowledge, but seriously, what other secrets that have not been written extensively here and many other websites around? Is the competitive nature of this contest is getting you to think way beyond what really is reality. Other peo...
