Re: Fossils B/C

I would suggest reading through the whole thread, as there is lots of advice that may help. Another suggestion is asking specific questions, as this will get you help on specifics.

My event leader hasn't given me the rule sheet for this event and this is my first time doing it. I checked soinc.org, but didn't find it. Could someone update the rule sheet for me? that would be awesome!
Thanks

You have to get a copy of the rules from your team, it can't be posted online.

I see it all the time at my regionals - feel like i could probably be a better judge. Fact is there are some BADDDDD judges at my regional, and probably at a lot of other regionals. Maybe even at states, and as for nats...well i've never been there but id assume based on hearing what other people h...

My personal preference is the Audobon, but smithsonian is also good, I just don't think it had as many of the genera.

Use google, and I would also suggest looking through a geology or other Earth Science textbook rather than encyclopedias.

Re: Fossils B/C

Making a field guide would take a considerable amount of time, but it would be worth it because if you make your own field guide than you should have a better knowledge of all of the organisms than if you just buy one.

Re: Bottle Rocket B

Many competitions have professionally made launchers, but they are not necessarily the most expensive launchers, and most just use a bike pump to pressurize the bottle. I have an Aquaport Launcer Nerds Inc Launcher . Both work well, although I have had a little trouble with the aquaport launcher. It...

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C

I dont get WHY we need 4 pages....1 page is enough as it is, four is just weird. and quite unfair. i personally would prefer no cheat sheets, cause that REALLY separates the people who know their stuff from the people who know how to make good notes. What really separates people who know their stuf...

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C

You don't technically need any books, you can find most information on the internet. A good book to start with would probably be any general earth science textbook, your school should have one that you could try to borrow, and most libraries have one.

Re: Nationals Swap Meet 2011!

Of course in TX incumbent teams normally only have a reign for a few years, normally no more than 4 or 5, which is about the time it takes for students to cycle through.
