Re: Do people normally get States/Regionals tests back?
I've been told NY doesn't really do arbitrations/score questions at all. My friend went to Great Neck South, which finished 4th in 2016 and 2017. One year, they really tanked 1 or 2 written events--I don't remember the details--that'd they'd always done well in and felt good about. They asked State...

Re: Do people normally get States/Regionals tests back?
Of course, this wasn't as fiery of a debate as Ohio 2016. What happened in Ohio 2016? The Ohio 2016 thread details it better than I can. Tl;dr was they announced Mentor got 2nd and it turns out that was a mistake. Then they found out Centerville did something during competition that either sketchy ...

100% Chem Lab for me. I took AP chem in 8th grade and did ChemOly throughout high school, so Chem Lab was really just a straightforward application of things I already knew.

Re: Do people normally get States/Regionals tests back?
SoCal (states and regionals) doesn't return exams, but they do answer questions about them. I remember when we got 22nd/30 at XPD in 2016, Bear actually talked to the XPD supervisors and got feedback for us, which was nice. Thanks, Bear! I've been told NY doesn't really do arbitrations/score questio...

Re: No show at nationals?
I think EastStroudsburg13 is saying that that is the punishment for the second time it happens to a state. If it happens a first time, the team will be punished by NSO, and the state should take precautions to make sure it doesn't happen again. If the state doesn't take those precautions and it hap...

It's a sadly common experience.blank25 wrote: I guess my team isn't alone in this experience.
Dynamic Planet at Socal States 2015 used the same exact exam as Orange Country Regionals that year, which was especially problematic since OC sent 6 teams to States.

Re: Poorly Run Event Stories
My friend was volunteering at Fossils for States, and noticed that the administered exam lifted questions from an exam she wrote for an invite a month prior. When the proctor/supervisor was asked about it, their response was that yes, they had seen her exam before and were "inspired" by it...

As an alumnus who competed nationally for Solon HS during our streak, I can tell you there's no truth to the rumor that my teammates and I were disappointed with our college application outcomes. If you are looking to pinpoint real reasons for lower placements those few years I'd say it was multifa...

Re: No show at nationals?
But does anyone know if the MS B team had an emergency or not? If they did, they didn't (haven't?) communicate to anyone about it... Maybe they did reach out to the tourney organizers when they could, but as of Saturday at Nats, no one knew where they were or what happened. I've heard Maine's (I th...

Re: No show at nationals?
Going to Nats take a lot of funding and planning (logistics) as well as time and effort (for events), so any plans involving a standby team are going to be fairly unfavorable, either financially or emotionally, for said standby team. And this year, we didn't know about either no show until a day or ...
