Re: Pennsylvania 2015

I think SSA's Div C is going to beat Strath Haven's C Team That wouldn't surprise me. I know the strength in Shady Side's team based off their b division teams the last few years. It's the same reason that our high school team has been improving. That being said, the state competition is incredibly...

Re: Entomology B/C

What should my partner and I do if the event proctor asks for a family name, even though the specific order on the official entomology list doesn't have any families under it? You're from Harriton, right? I assume you are referring to the Division C test at PA States. Ceg7654 is right: if you had l...

Re: Boomilever B/C

Bridge Building did have a minimum height in the past. The difference was that elevated bridge required clearance of an area in the middle of the span (meant that you couldn't have a straight member directly across the gap). Regular Bridge Building is just a super easy event. Towers is too, and I t...

Re: Boomilever B/C

Does anyone know whether next year's topic is elevated bridge or just bridge building? I understand they're very similar, but I assume regular bridge building doesn't have a minimum height.

Re: Pennsylvania 2014

On behalf of the Conestoga High School Science Olympiad team, we congratulate Harriton, Penncrest, Springhouse, and Shady Side for fabulous performances. Division C was a fight until the end this year-- but we wouldn't have changed it for the world. Each and every team has something to be proud of....

Re: Pennsylvania 2014

Well, it's about a 3 hour drive, and we don't really want to get up at 3:00 in the morning :)

Re: Pennsylvania 2014

What do you think about Springhouse's chances? I'm part of their team and just wanted to know your predictions for us. Its only our second year, so you may not have that much data on us, but I would still love to know your thoughts. Thanks! I don't know if this was directed at anyone in particular,...

Re: Boomilever B/C

Try and make the joint area larger, maybe use the top and bottom of the joint as well (so like in a notch on the base). Also, if you're using superglue sand the parts smooth, use a tiny amount of glue spread over the whole area, and let it dry for a full 24 hours (when you're pushing the limits of ...

Re: Boomilever B/C

I'm facing a bit of a problem right now in that my tension members are shearing off right where they are glued to the base. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Would reinforcing the joint (for example, running another piece that's the same width down the tension member for about 3 cm) prevent it fro...
