Re: Threshold for a competitive time

Increasing mass does increase the frictional force but it wont increase the max acceleration. From my research the greatest traction you can get with a gym floor with any material is .5-.6. There are some great wheels like Dr.fizzix high traction wheels (http://www.docfizzix.com/products/bulk-speci...

Re: Threshold for a competitive time

Yeah, sure, there's a reason jet dragsters are incredibly fast, but I assume it's very very hard to make a highly efficient and symmetric/reversible way to move air that fast. He might be able to speed up to that point but he couldn't slow back down as fast. What you need to do is devise a way to ga...

Re: Electric Vehicle C

Brushless motors require three different 'PWM' signals all 120 degrees out of phase from the other. To get a reliable speed control you need to worry about correctly commutating the motor and some sort of speed detection (via sensor or back-emf measurement). I'm not even sure if the arduino uno has ...

Re: Running EV help

Well as we said, it's a judgement call by the supervisor on the day. In my opinion acetone would be just fine, and I've used that technique in multiple competitions and many gym floors without issue. Regardless, stopping the, before they used it was the right thing to do. The rest of the discussion ...

Re: Electric Vehicle C

Have you looked at timing belts? sprockets sounds heavy (lots of inertia) and like they have a lot of backlash in them.

Re: Running EV help

I used to use isopropyl alcohol to clean wheels (while we're listing alternatives) it worked well and you could watch the small ammount evaporate away before setting the vehicle down. I feel like most teams will want to use some cleaner that evaporates, water would not be a good choice here. The ben...

Re: Arduino+Brushless Motor Problem

If it only happens with a load on the motor then it really sounds like an ESC issue. It's a long shot, you could also try a few things. First, make sure all your motor wires are well away from the arduino/control wires, second, try putting a large (3.3kOhm or something) resistor between the servo pi...

Re: Arduino+Brushless Motor Problem

So if I understand correctly you still have the issue when you use only servo.h and run the vehicle, timing with a delay? And it's that the vehicle speeds up, not simply runs too long? In case it isn't obviously speeding up, Id run the vehicle in the air (the motor should jump straight to the target...

Re: Electric Vehicle C

(Mhz, but that's just me being pedantic) The arduino is actually using interrupts to send the servo pulses as well, it uses a timer in the processor to count up the time, which then triggers an internal interrupt, does it's deal with the pulse, and resets. It's entirely possible that there's an issu...

Re: Electric Vehicle C

My run time is 2.6 and i found a way to get it faster, although I have to admit it has been a long journey and a PAIN to do. Finally someone does it... Did you have any issues hitting resonance points as you accelerate? Not sure of this is the same, but I've had a similar problem with brushless mot...
