Re: Nationals Event Discussion
After a slight hiatus this year from posting on the forums, I'm finally getting around to posting again...after my last tournament as a competitor...time to join Division D... :'( That said, I was fairly satisfied with how my events were run: Circuit Lab (8): This was by far my favorite test of the ...

Re: Duke University Invitational 2019
I'm really glad that Duke finally got around to holding a tournament this year and I really did enjoy it. It was fairly well-run as a whole, which was helpful for competitors, though there were several instances of events running overtime (some up to twenty minutes if I recall correctly). That being...

Re: Science Olympiad at MIT Invitational 2019
I have to respectfully disagree with this style of tricky, hardcore test writing. When you do things like this, you're assessing a teams test-taking strategies and not their actual knowledge of Forensics. I don't think there's anything wrong with writing an extremely long test, and based on what yo...

restrict 1-85 restrict :b If the chain does not have 3 Alpha Helices and 3 Beta Pleated Sheets, your program is recognizing the wrong chain. It should look as such: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UQgeeSXoNnIR7ZOjLpnYPizFRMJlR7bK/view?usp=sharing I'm not sure what the chain is supposed to look lik...

Re: Protein Modeling C
When has/will the On-Site model protein been/be determined? Is it supposed to be the CRISPR, since we're modelling anti-CRISPR for the pre-build? I understand that the specific section won't be given until competition.

Re: The Union of Safety for SciOly Engineers.
28. Don't wash off the super glue on your hand with water. When CA and water meet, the CA crusts up into this whitish, hard solid which feels even weirder than just regular crusted CA. 29. Don't cut yourself with a knife lol 30. Don't use a blunt blade to cut mylar and expect it to come out nicely....

24. When using a box cutter blade to cut something (e.g. balsa or carbon fiber), pay attention to what side of the blade you push down on.

Re: Science Olympiad at MIT Invitational 2019
I'm not sure I understand why MIT prevents teams from circulating tests in the first place. I'm a believer in releasing tests publicly after competition so that all teams have the ability to benefit from them, rather than just those with other tests to trade. People come to competition for the enti...

Re: Protein Modeling C
3.III.b.i does not limit itself to CRISPR Cas9 But it does limit itself to protein folding(specifically the process that drive it) where past test contained more general protein questions(such as "what amino acid contains sulfur?") True. I do expect fewer general knowledge questions than ...

Re: Protein Modeling C
on the rules, it is said that we need to be able to answer questions based on the on-site build as well. based on how protein modeling went in 2015 there was a learning module on cbm.msoe.edu. that site hasn't been updated with this year's model yet, so does anyone know when it will be updated? tha...
