Re: Wright Stuff B-transport box

I will be making a special foam board box to transport my daughters planes to Nationals. The airline bin is 17 deep x 12 high x 81 long. I plan to make a box for each plane 16.5X4.5x30. This is over the 45" max carry on rule for airlines. We hope the flight attendents allow the planes to go in...

Re: Wright Stuff B

I believe John Clapp wrote up an announcement for a special award for the team, but I didn't hear it announced at the medals ceremony. That's nice that they were thinking of doing that. It was getting around 2 minutes before the comp, but they still managed to fix it. I was really impressed. I got ...

Re: Wright Stuff B

Can we see some reports on the longest WS flight times at state competitions?

Re: Wright Stuff B

[quote="jacdad"]OK, folks, here is my report on the PA State Wright Stuff. Many planes flying less than their best times. Many planes stalling when trying to fly higher. I was not timing this year, but weighing motors and sitting right next to the young lady (last year's C winner) who was ...

Re: Wright Stuff B

Any suggestions to reach 3:00? What are the imporatant factors to increace my time at Nationals? Should I try to fly higher, change prop pitch or work with a torque meter (i built one but only seems to reveal when the rubberband will break)? Thanks for your help. Good Luck MG :D All of the above. Y...

Re: Wright Stuff B

Our larger prop doesn't do half as well. We don't have time to change the pitch to get it to climb, because the larger prop yields times of no more than 45 seconds, on a good flight. With the thinner rubber, it doesn't climb at all. Also, is it better to wind off the plane, or on the plane? Winding ...

Re: Wright Stuff B- torque meter

We built a torque meter, but the wire is too thin and twists easily. We used 0.015" music wire. It comes in every imaginable size. Any thoughts on what size we should try next? Thanks, MG Generally, .015 is favored in most torque meter designs for indoor motors. Its is supposed to rotate so th...

Re: Wright Stuff B

Jeff,

Yup- multiple typos. Those trim flying, stick to increments of adjustments that are in MM and not CM.

Re: Wright Stuff B

Does putting the horizontal stab on wing posts so you can adjust its tilt gain you that much more flight time as opposed to a horizonatal stab directly attached to the tail boom? This issue too. This for the airplane and teams going for that last 10% of performance.... Yes, putting the stab on post...

Re: Wright Stuff B

Ok, a couple issues to cover 1) The CG on indoor endurance airplanes (such as WS) is usually BEHIND the trailing edge of the wing. Some designs may suggest further back than you expect. The CG that is 1/3 back from the leading edge of the wing is good for scale type airplanes. 2) Best position to l...
