Re: Egg-O-Naut C

I think no parachutes would be interesting with the eggs and make people focus more on aerodynamics and stability more than just the parachute system which was basically the event this year. Has anyone tested how backsliders do with the weight of the egg and its padding?

Re: Mouse Trap Vehicle

Yeah, I also did this event as a trial event in middle school in Indiana (there was only one mousetrap allowed, I believe). Our design was pretty much the same as everyone's, we attached a fishing rod to the mousetrap and did the attached string to the axel with the pin in the middle to reverse dire...

Re: SAT Scores?

My personal hypothesis on the SAT bio scoring: The most likely reason for the differences in scores between E and M is that the majority of students (like you) come in expecting ecology to be much easier than molecular. Because of this, many more of the lower scoring students come in without much st...

Re: Next Years Events

They really aren't too difficult to combine. Testing for powders and metals would be changed to testing for pH, NPK, heavy metals, and other elements using given chemicals or tools. Then I'd assume you'd test a couple soil (or water?) samples in order to attempt to find the source of a pollutant in ...

Re: Wolfram-Alpha Search Engine

Yeah, it looks amazing. It pretty much already has an entire easily searchable version of the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics online which makes it immediately worth while to tons of students. I'm excited to see how it grows.

Re: Ecology

Taiga still doesn't make sense to me. Two years ago the rule clarification for ecology stated the boreal forests would be included as a subtopic of forests. So why is it getting its own topic now?

Re: Amphibians and Reptiles

That goes completely against the rule clarifications that I made approximately 5 of to be certain of the point (allowing printed diagrams/pictures/notes). Rulings like that are somewhat ridiculous at that level. Doesn't sound like a very well run event.
