Re: Michigan 2010-2011
Is it just me, or does the west side (Grand Rapids, Grand Haven) generally do better at states? It's not just you. Personally, I think it's because Country Day, IA, Troy, and yes, even my school Athens try too hard at other things. We do reasonably well in math competitions, Fed challenge, FPS, and...

Re: Solar System B
I do believe you need to know the physical characteristics of the sattelites and dwarf planets as well. We have had questions regarding the sattelites on our tests.
For Example: Which moon in our solar system has active geysers and which planet does it belong to?

Re: Awesome Aquifers B
Is everything you need to know for awesome aquifers (the test part especially) also studied in Dynamic Planet this year? There seems to be a lot of overlap.

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
I know it was our concern in the first place, but I will attempt to help with the Inflow/Outflow topic. A PDF linked on the Science Olympiad page for Dynamic Planet, inflow is simply stated as water flowing into a lake, and outflow is water flowing out of a lake. That just seems too basic for them t...

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
Yeah. It was the MacMillan Encyclopedia of Earth Science. It comes in two volumes. It is pretty general, but has some very good information on fresh water, rivers, lakes, et cetera.quizbowl13 wrote: might i mind asking which encyclopedia you are using?
It is also written in a very comprehensible way.

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
Can anyone find ANYTHING on lake inflow and outflow? I have checked our school's online encyclopedias and I have nothing. Use google, and I would also suggest looking through a geology or other Earth Science textbook rather than encyclopedias. I am Prplman's partner in this event. It is an encyclop...

Re: Solar System B
FIRST So solar system will be about the same as last year except you can have two pages of notes?? Any other differences? The only difference from last year, other than the note sheets, is that you do not need to know the constellations, instead you need to know how to interpret certain physical ch...

Re: Dynamic Planet B/C
Yeah, four sheets is a lot. It takes away from a lot of the learning involved with Science Olympiad.
