yeah, only out of state trips get charter buses for my school. In fourth grade we took a field trip to somewhere 5 hours away, and rode in a school bus

That's awful. We had to ride two hours in one and I felt like I was going to die.

We never get charter buses. Only for select things, like FBLA or special trips, get charter buses in our school district. Certainly not science olympiad. I don't think a charter bus would even be considered unless we made it to nationals. Funding, lack of support, etc. are all problems. At least the buses we get now are actually from our school district.

Slightly related post from before, back in my earlier days, sharing some bus experiences. I didn't want to go into another long spiel about it: http://scioly.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php? ... 704#p73704

we got charter buses once, for a 6.5 hour bus ride on an APES trip, but we were paying over 300 for the trip, so we were picking up the cost of the trip. Initially, not enough people were going to go, so the trip was almost canceled, until a benevolent parent pitched in the remainder of the money.

last year, my team took a charter bus to illinois for nats and that was an 11 hr ride.
it wasnt that bad since we made several stops and split up the 11 hours between 2 days.

this year were taking the charter bus again to wisconsin and itll be a 15 hour ride! :D

sometime is is more worth it to fly, especially if you consider food, room, and bus costs over 15 hours

Yeah, I know right? But it sounds like a good bonding experience.

the fact that it takes that much longer to take a bus is a good thing. you get to miss an extra day of school. i also think that the bus is more fun than the plane. you have more time to have more fun

True, missing school is fun :D
But I'll go crazy if I have to spend 15+ hours trapped in a bus :|

That's why we're splitting the trip into three days.
