Nationals was fun, but kind of disappointing because I only got one medal.
I medaled in Protein Modeling (4th). My other events were Remote Sensing (8th), Dynamic Planet (11th), Disease Detectives (12th), and Write It Do It (47th)
Our team got 20th, which is okay I guess........

I thoguht the opening ceremonis were really cool, especially the demonstration with the tube of gas being lit. I've been trying to find something out, though. Does anyone know what reaction caused the blue light and sound that came out from the tube when they lit it?

From what I gathered, the blue light was just the combustion of the gas they filled the tube with, and the sound was due to the movement of air through the tube caused by the heat released.

That's what I thought, but I didn't know exactly what gas they filled the tube with. My first thought was methane, but I believe that gives of a more orange light when lit.

Our team got 15th, which was way better than we expected. It was the highest placing that our school has gotten in the 5 years we've made Nationals, and our team was overjoyed. My events didn't go as well as I hoped. :|

This is our first science olympiad team ever!
So whatever place we got, we were just happy that we beat Hawaii's previous rankings by 13+ places....
However, we were almost blown away by the testing events...everything was much harder than expected (except for chem lab apparently...)
Next year, we'll definitely be more prepared though....

Also, U of Wisconsin campus was amazing!
1st Time Science Olympiad-er!
2nd in Regionals and 1st in States........last in Nationals? haha

Events: Anatomy, Disease, Ecology, Experimental Design (?)
Locked
