Re: Japan Joining Science Olympiad?
To get around the airplane security, expenses and rewiring the site, someone can make linked sites for internats discussion and another for the competition itself. There could be a translation option as well.

Well in theory all International competitors would have to have some grasp of the English language, therefore translations would not really be a large problem. If there where ever a large International portion of scioly.org (which is what I believe you to be talking about not SOINC competitions) than adding language support to scioly.org could be considered. However that would not need to be worried about until a large group of international competitors join the site.Cheesy Pie wrote:Yeah, and make state "state or country" and internationalize scioly.org... but what about translation issues?
That would not be plausible. Each .xyz domain costs money, and there is no need to spend money on extraneous domains since scioly.org is accessible in any country with internet.Littleboy wrote:yea and then have a scioly.ca, .co and .japan and stuff like that

I think Japan should have its own SO teams, not be with us. But still Japan is awesome, after all, I was born there.Cheesy Pie wrote:Should we have scioly internationalized, with state/country instead of state?

Re: Japan Joining Science Olympiad?
So that's why my international idea was stupid! It costs money, and eInternats would be encouraging cheating. But still. Most of the teams going to nats have to travel a long way. Internats is like a bigger version of nats in my mind.

Every way you look at it, it's highly problematic. However, having Japan here would be fun, though grossly unfair. Oh well. Everything can't be perfect in this wacky, upside down world.

A lot of you guys keep saying the internationals would be hard to manage. But I don't think you realize that there are over ten international competitions for high school. Also, your problem is that it'd be too hard to get too. But you forget, YOU'RE NOT GOING, Solon is...there'd still be a Nationals. So it'd only be one team. And anyway, most of the teams have to fly here, and there isn't much difference flying to Wisconsin or flying to Europe...

Wouldn't it be cool to brag about being the smartest team on earth? And I want my sig to be proved wrong, so internats would be a good incentive for this country considering most americans are egotists.
