I see... thanks so much for your help guys! I really appreciate it. I suppose I'll go through all of the field guides I have, then take notes on the stuff on soinc's website... Also, I have a Sibley's Guide to NA Trees, and I was wondering, where are you guys writing all your notes? Because, earlier people were talking about how there's a lot of space in the margins, but I don't really see much space at all... besides the space between the pictures... :/

Yeah, "margins" are just the white space in between the pictures. I'm not a big fan of writing in guides, I would personally type notes on a computer or just read websites/field guides until the info sinks in.

Dumb question, but when it says you may "tab" the field guides, what does this mean?

It means that you can tab them. Like, post it notes, and such, to keep track of the pages.

Also, does anyone have Sibley's guide? If you guys do, can you flip to page xxiii? And to the right, and the middle, it shows a "simple palmate" leaf. May I ask how that is palmate? Shouldn't that be pinnate?

Nope because the three main veins all come from a single point.

Out of curiosity, where are you guys getting your additional tree information? Are you guys getting everything from the field guides? Because, I'm unsure as to what I should do and where I should get my information from. I feel like the info in the field guides isn't enough... Also, for ecological characteristics, should we be brief on that since there are so many trees? 0_o Thanks for the advice!

Diagrams from the nat. study guide are good, last yr. both my optics and ornth. test ( region and state) included intensiveness diagrams and we had the answers w/ no effort.
