So this year's remote topic is same as last year's? I'm going to probably do remote this coming year and would like to know if the tests on the wiki are relevant or not. Any other study tips would be greatly appreciated.

Usually the topic changes every year; we won't know until the draft rules come out at least.

It says though on here: http://soinc.org/2013_event_table that remote will be on the hydrosphere.

Interesting. Then any test from last year should be good. Actually, I'll bet most of the tests on the exchange will be of some help, since a lot of satellite/sensor questions are similar year after year.

I wouldn't be 100% sure though. Up until July, last year's event table still had it slated for Human Impact.

It's going to be interesting with the Glaciers crossover next year.

So even if it doesn't end up being on the hydrosphere in the end, learning the satellites will be a help?

Hey guys,
Can someone help me with the Conestoga 2012 test (http://scioly.org/w/images/7/7a/Stoga_r ... ensing.pdf)
For #17, the answer key says that it should be 4.457x10^-3s, but I keep getting 8.913x10^-3s, which is double the answer given. I did 2 x (1337 km) x (1000m/km) x (s/3x10^8m), because it should be roundtrip for the beam to hit the earth's surface and come back...right?

Annndddd whoever can explain #18 will earn my love forever.

Also, this is kind of a general question, but how do you guys go about studying for this event, especially the application and image interpretation parts? Any help would be greatly appreciated (considering that my team has bombed this event every year).

Thanks! :D

On number 17, you're right... the answer key is wrong(it happens)

On number 18, you've already figured out the time it takes for a pulse to travel from the satellite and back, so you calculate the time it takes if the path were 10cm longer(or shorter.. just switches signs) both ways and take the difference(as you might imagine, it's very, very small).
