The string works really well to measure the distance of curving roads or rivers. But you have to be careful. It is really easy to mess it up.

Well said. I didn't think of that... I usually only use it for straight-line distance.

I find that a malleable but easily benbable wire is good for curvy roads and streams.
Road Scholar seems to depress everyone on my team who does it, but it's my favorite event...

That sounds like it would work for many people, however I think string would work better and is easier to use.

There are some maps where the bends are so sharp, it is almost impossible to do. It's really annoying.

This is when it is helpful to have a partner to hold the string to the map when necessary.

Yeah, but it the person makes the test really long, you might have to split it. During states, we had a 10 page test. We bearly finished it.

Yes... We always split the test, but we always make sure the event supervisors say we can. That is why this event needs two good people and not one good and one bad.

Well you don't need to ask the event supervisor to split the test. You need to ask him/her if you were going to take the test apart. Nut yeah, some people make really long tests on purpose, so they can make sure each person knows how to do things.

Yes, I did mean to say take it apart... it is hard to split it without taking it apart.
