That is not true. Cal and Texas have competitive teams.

I'm not trying to say that the southern states are uncompetitive (we're here too, in Alabama), it's just that I keep hearing lots of stuff going on in the North.
But this is Science Olympiad, there is nowhere where there is no good competition.

We're not too too far away from Churchill.. Considering how far other teams travel.

We're talking north vs south

I believe a majority (if not all) of the states have competitive regionals.

And although some of the nation's top teams do reside in the north, there are some southern powerhouses (i.e JC Booth)

You guys actually went there :O? Wow. You know there was one in SoCal in early January.

And as far as the most competitive states, I'm thinking the North-East.

The most competitive states are easily the ones with the most invitationals, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan, and Illinois (in no particular order).

It depends on whether you define a competitive state as "doing well at Nationals" or "equally skilled teams battling each other for first place within the state".

If you take the first definition, PA is very competitive; if you take the second, it's not very competitive...our state champ is on a 14 year streak (plus 5 more years of making Nats before that) and the second place team is on a 8 year streak.
