States sending two teams

Post by Infinity Flat »

Hey everyone,

Just a quick question -- about when can we expect to know which states are sending two teams to nationals?
(State, Nationals)
2013: Astro (2, 6) / Chem (2, 5) / Circuits (8, 36) / Diseases (1,1) / Fermi (N/A, 24) / Materials (1, N/A)
2012 : Astro (1, 11) / Chem (N/A, 13) / Diseases (3, 1) / Optics (2, 3) / Sounds (2, 1)
2011: Astro(2,11) / Diseases (1,27) / Optics (1,13) / Proteins (2,15)

I believe Ohio will be sending two, as we have for the past three years. However, the website is woefully unupdated, so I'm not positive..

Good question. Minnesota was informed that we would be sending two teams last year early May.
EDIT: Actually, April 27th, to be precise.

I believe the list was published very early in April/very late March, as we were unsure approaching state, but knew by before it that only the top team advanced from Kansas last year.

AL usually sends two teams. Even if we do only run 7 events for Div C at States.

That was an unusual circumstance because Minnesota got a second spot only when Washington, DC ceded its spot.

Looking at the Wayback Machine web archive of soinc.org, the list was up when the site was archived on March 30 but not when the site was archived on February 26. Thus, the list was posted sometime in March. Presumably they must wait until the deadline for state directors to submit their registration numbers to the national office, which is likely sometime in mid-March. For sure it is after March 1st because North Dakota doesn't have its team registration deadline until March 1st.

EDIT: I noticed that last year's team number list (http://soinc.org/sites/default/files/Te ... -%20WI.pdf) was compiled on March 15th, so just a deductive guess, but maybe the deadline for state directors is March 15th, meaning the team numbers would be published shortly thereafter.
