seems as a lot of us had competition today :)

the test for us at regionals was pretty bad. It was just groundwater contour maps, wells, pollution, and the San Joaquin Valley aquifers. (Stuff I didn't study  ) We only had 4 demonstration concepts too, 3 were about wells and one about impermeable layers. No aquifers, porosity/permeability, etc.

I have had several questions about remediation in station 4. I don't have any time to order charcoal....Is there any other way I can show this concept?

You don't need to order charcoal, just get it at a pet store in the fish aquarium area.

lol I had 5 demonstration bullets, but each had 4 points....somehow I finished in three minutes and made it to state. So now's here's a question: how can I guarantee myself a spot in the top 6 places at state? Any ideas how I can improve my speaking and clarity skills?

Practice, practice, and more practice. Execution is key. You've got one shot, go for it.

What helped us in Aquifers with presenting was just acting silly right before the competition. We just acted weird in front of all the people who we were competing against and then we were pretty calm during the test. Also, don't be intimidated by the judge. Answer their questions with confidence, no "ummms". Even if you don't know what a concept is or how to answer a question just pretend like you know what you're talking about :D

What was the point of acting silly?

What I was trying to say was to not be so serious and just have fun presenting. Especially if your presenting in one of the later time slots, the judge has already seen quite a few people who know what they're doing and is talking about aquifers so that they are probably bored. Being calm will make you present better and capture more of the judge's attention.

thanks to all who replied! I must admit....I do tend to panic before the presentation. Maybe I'll try to be "silly".

In my opinion, I would focus on having a thorough presentation; and as aforementioned, the best way to be comfortable is to know your presentation well, which means a lot of practice.
