What were people's predictions for their final temperature at nats? We predicted 51.5 degrees Celsius.

We predicted 50.8 if i remember correctly. Out of curiosity what temperature were other people's water after it had been placed in your device (if you used your own probe as part of the calculation)? Ours was 59.7 to start, and it looks like they did a good job of keeping things pretty consistent across the board.

Any thoughts on the test? It seemed very well written to me, a little bit on the long side but not too difficult.

Our starting was 61.5. @hmcginny, what place did you get?

EDIT: Oh, I'm assuming you got 1st seeing you're from PA and you got a better predicted heat retention than us who placed 6th.

Hmm so there was still some inconsistency. Not that it honestly affects scores that much, the ratio of external to internal would have been pretty similar (guessing ours would be slightly better with predicting cooling 8.9 degrees vs. 10, but probably not a significant difference). I'm guessing all the top teams did fairly similarly on the test and that it came down to the heat retention. I've been surprised the past two years looking around at team's devices, I've seen creative devices, but never anything incredible.

What was the volume of water and time for Nats?

For anyone doing this next year, I would recommend having one partner build and one do research. That worked pretty well for us, although we kind of had to because I'm not allowed to do building events.

Not an event next year :( (but the same advice could ostensibly apply to Complex Machines)

Build? I was under the impression that it just involved calculating the properties of the simple machines

You don't build anything prior to competition, but you have to build one in competition to get a certain efficiency.
I bet you had to read this twice
