Ninhydrin is specifically good for paper ... Cyanoacrylate is good for nonporous surfaces ... that's all I usually need to remember during competition. Everything else I usually answer with dusting because iodine fuming is not used very often nowadays.piimasta314 wrote:How do you know when to use a certain fingerprint test?
I know when not to use dusting, but for cyanoacrylate it can be used for lots of things...same with ninhydrin and iodine fuming. I looked up the special types of surfaces but those three can be used for nearly all surfaces.

Hey, I was looking over the rules and it said we are to know how to identify bat hair...can someone verify this for me? My partner and I are very confused over this...

Instead of going about getting expensive kits you could just search pictures on google. By the way, how much of the tests are usually theory? I tried a practice test and they asked all these vocabulary questions about different types of evidence and the investigation process...

None of the high-level tests should be about theory at all, maybe a question or two (but still less than 5% of the total points.)
