One of the most distinctive features of limber pine is the large amount of sap that accumulates on the cones and the relatively short needles that occur in groups of 3-5. Understand that the cones of the Balsam Fir also accumulate sap but (obviously) is a fir. Feel free (anyone) to correct/add on to this.

I think the medicine is derived from the roots? Not sure what though

It is from the roots and I think the oil is essential in many different usage. Your turn! :)
