If we're going by Recently... Michigan is better than Georgia & Pennsylvania. And Georgia & Pennsylvania are sort of interchangeable for 5th place.

Honestly, I would say for recently, we should have separate rankings for B & C. Pennsylvania is way stronger in division C, but Georgia is stronger in division B.

Anyways, here are my unofficial rankings:

Division B:
1. Illinois (2nd/6th at Nationals): keep in mind Daniel Wright, Meads Mill, and Shadyside have all beaten Solon this season...
2. Ohio (1st/9th): just by reputation alone, and generally these teams have been to the most invitationals.
3. California (4th/10th): yes, I'm combining N/S but Winston Churchill/Arden and Muscatel have been historically consistent
4. Georgia (3rd/25th): Booth makes this state quite consistently good at nationals.
5. Michigan (7th/13th): Whoever makes it out of this state, be it Meads Mill, Lakeshore, or White Pines has always proved to be capable of placing top 10 consistently.
Honorable Mentions: Texas (only last year become good, but has potential to grow), Virginia, Washington, and Pennsylvania

Division C:
1. Ohio (1st/4th): Ohio has captured the last 4 national titles be it Centerville or Solon.
2. California (2nd/10th): Troy is amazing and it has a rich history of doing well. Mira Loma is very consistently good as well.
3. Michigan: (3rd/24th): Grand Haven is an absolute powerhouse and the school district as a whole is strong in SO.
4. Pennsylvania: (6th/14th): The teams that come out (Harriton/Penncrest/Bayard Rustin) are all very strong teams and can break the Top 5.
5. Tie between Texas, Illinois, and New York: Be it LASA, Seven Lakes, New Trier, Stevenson (IL), F-M, or Ward Melville, they all can break top 10. They are very strong in a couple events if not more. Expect to see these states on stage for team awards.
Honorable Mentions:Washington, New Jersey
-JZ Solon '12, Penn '16

I was only referring to Division B (for both recently & currently). I agree that Georgia has a significant dropoff in Division C (well technically it's pretty consistent with Georgia's second place teams, it's just that Booth is extremely above average.)

I'm from Rolling Hills MS. We placed 3rd at states. We probably don't have a chance of going to Nats though...

No. Our school is going to NorCal State Competition in one week. We just placed third in Regionals. Hopefully we will not fail.
I am from Rolling Hills btw.

I think if you're going to have Shady Side in your bank of teams, you have to at least consider Strath Haven. Strath has placed higher than Shady Side at nats the past two years, and they've been doing very well this year. You don't have to put them in your top 10, but right now Shady Side and Strath Haven are neck-and-neck in PA, so you should have both or neither, rather than one or the other.

To add on to this, I compiled State Rankings for Division B by taking the results of a state's team/teams in the last 3 National Tournaments and finding the average. Feel free to disagree, because this is purely mathematical. Also, this isn't ranking individual teams, but the state as a whole.

Despite East's post, we definitely don't deserve to be 8th at this point in the season (especially since Shady Side isn't there). We've gone up against Gelinas already this year, and they were better than us. The Rustin Invitational scores were something like this:

1. Gelinas A 139
2. Eagle Hill 140
3. Strath Haven A 155
4. Strath Haven B 200

We'll have to wait and see how PA States plays out between us and Shady Side, I guess :) .

Alright, it's hard with invitational tournaments because the list for them just shows the Champ and the runner-up. I don't even know who goes to what tournament sometimes, though I try to figure it out, so thanks for that. On a somewhat related topic, does everyone agree that Eagle Hill should make the list?

Paul J. Gelinas won New York against Eagle Hill on April 12 at States. I'm so proud of everyone, because we all worked really hard for that win.
