No not really. It's just mostly that you built the majority of this before the competition.

Mystery Archatecture really is much more archatectural (hence the name), then Junkyard Challenge. Mystery Archatecture wound up being almost all bridges and towers or the like, while Junkyard challenge is more of an off-beat task that is planned for beforehand. While you are probably right that you are really good at or are horrible at, i think it is a completely different skill set for each.

well, me and my partner whom were practicing for this event had stuff like popsicle sticks, straws, straw wrappers, pipe cleaners, and 4 cups(and if I'm correct a notecard) to make a bridge that could hold the most weeight
our bridge made out of this garbage or "JUNK" held over 200 lbs before the cups collapsed
so I do not believe there is a different set of skills required

You're describing mystery architecture there, right? Because it's probably not worth wasting your time practicing for an event with no rules (That's probably been said 10 times already). I think the skill set is different, because in mystery architecture you had to be a quick thinker and efficent worker. In this event it seems like you can spend a lot of time and work slowly and carefully in designing and building the device. Although you will have to be innovative at the competition (Basing off of last year's rules) in integrating the integral part.

I dont think that was said 10 times but ok
and I do know its not worth practicing for this event because it has no rules
and what type of innovation are you talking about?
