I never did the BLG event, but I don't think it'd be harder, just different.

I think it'd be more of a pain to have to come up with a balloon launcher, actually.

But there's definitely a lot involved in motors, winding, prop pitch and torque, etc.

I think this would involve more work than blg. I haven't done either event, but I've observed both quite a bit. In blg, you drop the plane from a height, here, you have to propel it, and either we just suck, or it really is difficult, but our plane didnt go very long

Lets be little more specific Mr. Anderson it was Northmont S.O. team that has provided
last three World Champions, right? :D
As World Champ, you should know Doug, but would you have gotten involved with F1D without Wright Stuff? And wasn't it nice having those teammates from SO to win the team trophy too??

Information expressed here is solely the opinion of the author. Any similarity to that of the management or any official instrument is purely coincidental! Doing Science Olympiad since 1987!

Actually I am former two time world champion Justin Young a Nortmont S.O. product is current
champion. My interest were with wing design in sixth grade where our coach ask me to join. Probably would have never known about F1D without S.O. and Wright Stuff. The constant year to year of that event then was factor also. It is big jump from Wright Stuff to F1D many said it couldn't be done but several of us proved otherwise.

Big foot stomper here! This page has the actual DRAFT rules being edited by the rules committees NOW. AND a pointer to where you can enter your comments on the rules. If you want to influence next years rules, here's an opportunity to review and comment, but you must do it NOW.

this post goes out to some of the more experienced fliers...
i use wing tips on my stab for most of my planes, when weight isnt a major issue...but do you guys angle only the wingtips for the turn and have a straight stab relative to the fuse, or make straight wingtips and turn the whole stab. ive almost always seen the whole stab turned, but i was just wondering if the alternative might be better.
