the key to parachute deployment is not putting the parachute in the nose cone itself and instead placing it on top of the pressurized bottle/ wherever your rocket separates. so that when the separation occurs the parachute isn't stuck up in the nose cone and is able to catch the air and deploy.

thanks, big D. does this mean that we drape the parachute completely opened over the cone? or does this mean that we still fold the parachute up into a small bundle, then let it hang from the side?

Uh Maybe that's the best option for you but I think that a parachute in the nose cone is best, you just have to wieght the nose cone correctly so it falls off and pulls out the parachute.

Sorry for asking so many questions, but we've tried so many things, but the parachute doesn't come out. do you make the nose cone heavier? would you advise for a smaller opening (like the opening of a coke bottle) for the parachute to come out of or a larger one (like a cross section of a coke bottle)?

I mean like put clay at the tip of the nose cone and connect the bottle, or where ever the egg is, to the nose cone with string then put the parachute on that string.

oh! so we should tie the parachute onto the string connecting the egg with the nose cone, and weigh the nose cone?

you could also let the nose cone just fall right off that top and the parachute (folded in a small bundle)in the top of the nose cone. the nose cone should have some weight to it and it should fall and parachute deploy as it falls back to the ground. it will take a few launches to find the right weight in the nose cone.

Can you estimate what time you got?

I don't know. It was like five or six seconds. Maybe longer. Our launches were kinda off because the launcher was freezing up and it wasn't coming off right.
