-Correctamundo. And that\'s what we\'re gonna be. We\'re gonna be cool. Now, I\'m gonna count to three, and when I count three, you let go of your mouse, and back away from the keyboard. But when you do it, you do it cool. Ready? One... two... three.

Re: Chem Lab C
Will the indicator for the titration always be the ubiquitious phenolphthalein or is it at the discretion of the supervisor?

Re: Chem Lab C
It's at the discretion of the supervisor, but I think most times chances are it'll be phenolphthalein, because that'll be what supervisors are most familiar with. They might also give you a choice of indicators, I think I had that happen to me at least once.

Re: Chem Lab C
Thanks. Is the "titration race" on for this year or is it just a test with practical stations?

Re: Chem Lab C
I'm not sure.
I just didn't know what aspects of stoichiometry will be tested on or not. I know titrations will be asked in the practical section.

Re: Chem Lab C
What makes it a race though?
I heard last year's nationals test was absolutely ridiculously long; I think my teammates said they had to do like 4 or 5 titrations (or was it 8?) at a 6 minute lab station. All the other stations asked for an insane amount of problems done in a ridiculously short time limit.
Is that where you got the "race" part of it from?
EDIT: nvm, it's at the top of the thread

Re: Chem Lab C
8 titration procedures is not hard if you do calculations beforehand, but 8 titrations total (including prepping) is insane...

Re: Chem Lab C
What sets apart teams in Chem Lab? I'd imagine about 80% of teams have students in or who have already taken AP Chemistry. Therefore, how do teams fall or rise as it's really simple to do stoich and understand equilibrium concepts. I feel as if many teams will do about the same. Is it the labs? If so, how are labs graded and what kind of labs are done other than titrations?

Re: Chem Lab C
I've never done this event (I'm currently in AP Chem) but I think that the stoich calculations will probably use insane things such as complexes, free radicals, obscure, massive hydrocarbons, and such.
