Mitosis occurs in somatic (or body) cells while meiosis occurs in sex cells (or "gametes") only.

In mitosis, each pair of identical sister chromatids, that is each X is split and goes to each side, after which the cell splits. In meiosis I, each homologous pair, that is two Xs, one from the father and one from the mother, lines up, and then one X from each homologous pair goes to each end and the cell splits. Then each daughter cell undergoes meiosis II in which now the 23 Xs line up, and they are split, and each sister chromatid goes to opposite sides of the cell after which the cell splits

Is putting a codon chart on the notes a good idea? During one invite we were supplied with a chart, but I'm not sure if this would be repeated at other competitions. Have any of you been asked questions about amino acids requiring the chart without one being provided?

Meiosis also has 2 stages, like (I'm going to use abbreviations because I'm lazy) P1 M1 A1 T1 -(another space here for G1 and stuff again)- P2 M2 A2 T2. Also, meiosis 2 (the second stage) is the same (practically) as mitosis and meiosis DOES NOT occur in gametes. It CREATES gametes. It OCCURS in germ cells.

Minor nitpick but there is no interphase after meiosis I. It pretty much goes straight to meiosis II.

any one know of any really good websites for learning sanger DNA sequencing analysis? i need a refresher on how to analyze those annoying electrophoresis gels.
