Heredity B/Designer Genes C

Post by Jim_R »

-The path of the Administrator is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.

-Nothing\'s gonna get deleted. We\'re gonna be like three little Fonzies here. And what\'s Fonzie like? Come on, what\'s Fonzie like?
-Cool?
-Correctamundo. And that\'s what we\'re gonna be. We\'re gonna be cool. Now, I\'m gonna count to three, and when I count three, you let go of your mouse, and back away from the keyboard. But when you do it, you do it cool. Ready? One... two... three.

I'm still confused why they didn't do a name swap

I could offer you a few reasons.
1. history
2. related to #1, to avoid confusion with last year's events
3. related to #1, no impetus to make the change

Unless you're saying they actually seriously discussed flipping the names of the event (which would mean #3 is wrong), those three reasons should all follow.

ME. It's one of my favorites.

I haven't gotten the rules yet. Does anyone know if there's any major changes to it? Thanks.

It does rotate out. Just not until next year.

Does anyone know exactly what they're referring to with "Plasmid selection and isolation"? It's a bit vague.

2014 events: WIDI, Geomapping, Materials Science, Food Science
2013 events: WIDI, Mousetrap Vehicle, Heredity, Food Science, Metric Mastery

Well, plasmids are small portions of DNA that are separate from chromosomal DNA, they are most common in bacteria. I assume they mean anything pertaining to the selection for use in cloning (and other things). And, isolation refers to a method of extracting the plasmids you want.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xEDEJ0DHFA This video also explains it quite well if you learn visually.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasmid_preparation And this breaks down the steps .
i hope this was helpful to you :D
