I understand that, but earlier in the forum people were discussing the simple machines mass, so I thought I would provide that informationSWAnG wrote:I was referring to compound machines

Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C
Hi, I'm about to join Div C and I was wondering if I should do Compound Machines. In Div B, I did simple machines and got fourth at nationals, but I'm trying to make the high school team, and they are already really great at compound. On the other hand, they are not that great at events like Chem Lab or the new event, Protein Modeling, which I could do instead. I am pretty conflicted as to what to pick for my last event.

If possible, pick them all!Sciolapedia wrote:Hi, I'm about to join Div C and I was wondering if I should do Compound Machines. Reading the last few posts has me curious. Do you all REALLY get to choose what events you do? Or do you simply get to state your preference and the coaches decide?

Re: Simple Machines B/Compound Machines C
It probably is different in other schools, but at our school, interest in Science Olympiad is very, very high. The coach has tryouts for each event and usually only picks the best of each event. Each event has, on average, 5-7 people trying out for it, more for popular events (e.g. Anatomy, Chem Lab, etc.) and less for building events (e.g. Scrambler, Mission Possible, etc.). Needless to say, most of the people who make the team are prepared and competent, and thus we do well at Regionals, States, and Nationals.
Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Mostly our team chooses, but the coaches will sometimes put us into events that they think we would be good at (and they're usually right).hscmom wrote:Reading the last few posts has me curious.
