I'm not sure what you mean about last year's rules (I always had the washer between the head of the bolt and the attachment base), but if you read the previous discussion, there's no bolt/washers this year for the attachment base, it's been replaced with a j-hook. There's a lot more detail in the earlier posts.

It's a typical problem when bending wood, steam helps, but only so much. This is also the reason why bent tubes are so hard to make well, when you force wood into a shape it wasn't originally in, there's internal stress/strain in the material that weakens it.
lol that is exactly what I mean.

Based off my understanding of the rules there'll be no adjustment of the testing wall at all.

You'll slip your boom over the j-hook and attach the loading block and you're good to go.

Sorry I wasn't clear enough, but I meant to ask if the attachment base is allowed to go between the testing wall and the washer, hexnut.

There is no washer and hex head bolt this year.

I think he was referring to the hex nut and washer that is being used to fasten the J-hook to the wall, in which case the answer is still no

I still don't understand the set up with a J hook. Does one just have their boomilever dangle from the hook since it isn't secured to the wall? I'm quite confused...

Yes the boom will be dangling on the hook. Basically, the only thing that students will be able to adjust prior to loading the sand will be
1) Their boom
2) The loading block

Nothing else on the testing wall gets adjusted/modified/touched by the students at all.
