I agree! I think the rule change focuses more on design of plane then mass. Obviously the design was important last year but this year its more important to pay attention to the aerodynamics.

Not official and worth a FAQ so the response is consistent, but as a coach I'd recommend concentrating on that second defintion of a canard aircraft with no horizontal stabilizer behind the wing to <SPAM URL CUT>.

With high speed launches and high ceilings, it seems like it might be very hard to get a proper launch with a stabilizer at the front. I can definitely see it being worth it to <SPAM URL CUT> for the lower ceilings at the VA state tournament though.

First time in gliders, how can I grow one in one week? Any specific seeds I should buy?

You certainly can "grow" one in a week, but the "fruit" won't be ripe. Depending how much time you cultivate will result in your success when it's time to harvest. First, read the rules carefully. Review last years forum, tons of info on how to build and fly. This event is not one of those 'one and done' events. You will have to build, fly, observe, adjust, maybe rebuild again, fly, observe....over and over. Keep a log of all that you do for evaluation later (very important and required). Did I mention.. read the rules carefully? Do a Google search Elastic launch Glider, check youtube - same tag. Try 'balsa glider'

Freedom Flight hasn't come out with their 2014 kit yet, but Ward's Science has. I'm not sure about the quality of Ward's kit though.
It's a bit early for these types of things to come out TBH. A lot of people just received their rule booklets a couple of weeks ago

It is NOT however too early to start practicing. You can modify Zigler's kit to fit this years rules, or build to last years rules to gain experience. There is a lot of learning curve if you haven't built and flown gliders successfully before. Even if you can't use the plane, the experience you gain will be transferable to this years plane if you use a kit when it is ready.

Hey guys, what exactly counts as a "pre-covered" surface? Also, since I am new at this event and our school is bad at it, do you guys have any advice? I was wondering if this could be legal: http://darehobby.com/airplanes/airplane-zingwings.htm .
