No, I didn't agree with what you said. You said

which I don't think is a good idea. You should try to learn as much about everything as possible.
Jocool wrote:just the systems they created.
That doesn't really make sense. PLSS stands for Public Land Survey System. The PLSS is the system, it doesn't make systems. So no, that's not what you said.

They are a department, and you don't need to know about the PLSS itself, just their systems.

Basically, all you need to know is how to number the sections (it's done pretty much backwards), how many sections there are in a township, what township and range lines are and what they mean, and how to locate something within a section. And it wouldn't hurt to know why it is used pretty much everywhere in the country except the east coast.

You just need a symbol sheet to find out which one is which, and you should be fine.

My teammate that was subbing for me (because of a time issue) said that there was a symbol he needed to use but it wasn't on the symbol sheet. Is that possible?

I don't think so, someone was wrong, either your sub couldn'y find it our the test writer messed up.

What did it look like? I've spent years looking at topos of all sorts and I"ve never found anything that isn't covered on the symbol sheet.

As for the benchmarks question:

Here's your explanation.

yes, it is. on our test, we needed a dock and it didn't have that. only wharf. i no that that's not what they were looking for because my partner put something different and got it right, while my school's other team put wharf & got it wrong.
